OFFICER REPORT: 14022984 – 1 / COLLETTE, C (302)
On July 13th, 2014, I, Officer Christopher Collette was assigned to Somerville marked unit East Four. At approximately 1702 hours, I was dispatched to 97 Ten Hills Rd. Apt # 2, for the report of a male threatening his sister with a knife. Units East One, East Three, West Five, and Sgt. Digregorio also responded. Once on scene, myself and Officer Fusco spoke with the victim who directed us to the bedroom of her brother Daniel Caruso (DOB 07/21/1967 the suspect in this matter. We asked Daniel to exit his room so we could speak with him. While seated in the living room he began to argue with his sister, and his father. At that point he was placed in hand cuffs and all parties were separated.
I then spoke with the victim again. She stated that briefly before our arrival she was laying in bed. Her brother Daniel Caruso then came into her bedroom while holding a knife. Victim stated that Daniel Caruso began to swing the knife at her while advancing towards her and stated that he was going to kill her. The victim then leapt out of bed. I asked her to describe the knife. She held her hands about shoulder width apart to describe the size of the blade, and she stated that the knife had some sorts of cuts along its side. I took this to mean a serrated edge. Inside Daniel’s bedroom a folding knife was found next to his television and a machete was found under his bed. The machete was approximately 18″ in length, and had saw teeth cut into the backside of the blade. I presented the knives to the victim for identification. I first showed her the folding knife with negative results. I then showed her the machete and she confirmed that the machete was the knife Daniel had assaulted her with.
Daniel Caruso was placed under arrest for the charge of: assault by means of a dangerous weapon, to wit, a machete. He was transported to the station and booked in the usual manner by L.T. Sheehan.
I’d like to note that both the victim, and witness do not want Daniel back in their home. The victim has stated that she will seek a restraining order. The machete was logged into evidence under tag number 14022984-1 and placed in 17.
