Leary arrest

On Friday January 10, 2014 at approximately 1208, while assigned to mark cruiser 662, I Officer Randy Isaacs was dispatched to Medford St for someone stealing a purse. Upon arrival I was met by a Medford Police officer, Sergeant Joseph Casey on detail with
MWRA. Sgt Casey informed me that he observed an individual walk past the detail site, turned back around an took a purse out of a work truck. As the individual preceded to walk away from the vehicle he started going through the purse and took out a small wallet. At that point the suspect was approached by Sgt Casey, who identified himself as a police officer and asked him to drop the purse and take a seat on the ground.
After speaking with the suspect he was identified as Mr Wayne Leary. Mr Leary informed us that he had made a stupid decision to steal the purse and he was sorry. Mr Leary also stated that he is on his way home from work, he knew that what he did was wrong and he did not want to go to jail. Mr Leary then stated that the only reason he took the purse was because he is desperate for cash and going through a hard time. At that point Mr Leary was placed under arrest and charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the daytime. Mobile detention Unit 200 was notified and Mr Leary was transported back to the Somerville Police station, where he could be booked under the usual booking process by LT Mulcahy.
