Acting Police Chief, Charles Femino, was officially sworn in today as the interim Chief of Police of the Somerville Police Department effective December 1, 2013.
Femino succeeds former Chef Thomas Pasquarello who retired after a notable career with the Somerville Police Department.

Chief Femino has been a member of the Somerville Police Department since 1984 and has advanced through the ranks of the department from Patrol Officer to Captain. He served as Acting Deputy Chief during 2010. He previously headed the Criminal Investigations Division for a number of years and has held a variety of patrol and administrative positions in the department. He will be responsible for the day to day administrative functions of the department.
Chief Femino earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the New England School of Law, a Masters Degree in Education from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northeastern University. When asked about his appointment Femino stated, it is my distinct honor to serve the citizens of Somerville and the Somerville Police Department as Police Chief.”
Femino stated he realizes that he may have tough decisions ahead but will continue to move the department forward in accomplishing what had already been started. Femino’s goals include having the officers continue to embrace the philosophy of community policing; utilize crime data and predictive policing methods to deploy personnel, and to continue moving the department closer in achieving a state certification in the areas of policy and procedure. Femino said that the Mayor has a vision for the City to be a safe place where one can live, work, play, and raise a family. He plans to run the department with that vision in mind.

The City Manager has begun the search process for a permanent Superintendent and plans to make a permanent appoint within a 4-6 month period.
