SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville is seeking four new volunteer members to join the Somerville Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC). These vacancies are for volunteer members who are passionate about local pedestrian and/or transit issues.

What is the Pedestrian and Transit Advisory Committee?

The PTAC advises the City on projects, policy, and programs related to walking, rolling, and transit as a means of transportation in Somerville and works to create a safer and more equitable built environment for people of all ages and abilities. Members review City project and plans to provide recommendations, work with City staff to engage residents for input and information about City projects, and collaborate with other transportation organizations at the local, state, and national level.

Who Can Join?
Eligible applicants must live or work in Somerville.

What is the Time Commitment?
The PTAC meets in a hybrid fashion on the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In addition, members may spend additional time reviewing projects and program materials, participating in a subcommittee, or assisting with outreach events, for an overall time commitment of 4 hours per month.

What is the Appointment Process?
Members are appointed to 2-year terms in a volunteer capacity. A team of City Staff and PTAC members review applications and interview potential candidates. Following interviews, this group of PTAC members will share their recommendations with the full committee and vote to move forward with recommending appointing the new members.
