Obituary

Mrs. Gertrude “Betty” E. (Carr) Evans passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025 in West Hartford, CT she was 102. Born and raised in Medford, MA she was the daughter of the late Gertrude F. (Chapman) and Herbert V. Carr. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph H. Evans. Together they raised their family in Medford. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Gertrude lived by Family, Faith and Country. In earlier years, she worked as an assistant for the First National Stores, before devoting herself to her family. She enjoyed time spent at Nantasket Beach and especially loved the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, but above all, she cherished time spent with family.

Devoted mother of Kathleen Madej and her husband Richard of Glastonbury, CT and the late David Evans and his surviving wife Regina of Salem, NH. Cherished grandmother of Stacy, Kristina and Heather Evans, Sarah Miner and her husband Sean and Andrew Madej. Great-grandmother of Kendra Madej, Oliver and Molly Miner. Loving aunt of Cindy, Dottie and Katherine. Special godmother of John Manoukin and his wife Karen. Dear sister of the late William and David Carr and Dorothy Crowley.

Funeral Procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Monday morning, March 17th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, Medford at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Calling Hours Sunday 3PM-6PM.

Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Aviva and Accent Care for their kind and loving care they all gave to Betty.
