Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speak up Line,

I am writing to you with a serious concern for safety in my neighborhood, which is also the current mayor’s neighborhood.

Over the last year, 18 wheeler trucks have been attempting to come down Ware Street and turn onto Russell Road. Many of them cannot make it and have to back up all the way to Curtis Street. Some still keep trying and knock down powerlines and cable wires, while others hit cars and take off. A could weeks ago(Sept 12) a huge 18 wheeler hit my neighbor’s car and kept going without even leaving their information. My grandfather called the police, but he wasn’t quick enough to get the trucks information. This is a serious safety concern for all the residents. I called 311 to ask if it was possible to get “no truck” signs and was told they would relay the message to the appropriate people but it was unlikely there would be any signs put up. With the city growing in population every year, this type of issue will just keep getting worse. Something must be done.
