EDWARD’S OBITUARY

Corey, Edward R.- Of Somerville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 22, 2023. He was 61 years old.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Marie (Bello) Corey. Eddie had a successful 34-year career with the City of Cambridge in the Department of Public Works until a severe injury forced him to retire early. He had a tremendous love for all sports, especially the 4 professional Boston teams. He enjoyed going to any sporting event, whether it was a local team or the big leagues. He loved playing football, hockey, and softball. Eddie was such a power hitter and powerful football player that he earned the nickname “Tank”. Eddie also had a love of horseshoes, which he learned from his father. If Eddie wasn’t playing sports, he would be in the bleachers cheering on his siblings while they played. His health started to deteriorate after his accident and the death of his wife, but he cherished the times that he spent with his children. He loved going to restaurants, sporting events, Castle Island or even just a simple ride to the store to get scratch tickets. Just being with Zach and Brianna brought him joy. Eddie had a very big heart and a contagious smile.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jean M. (Miscavage) Corey who passed away in 2017. The devoted father of Zachary and Brianna Corey both of Somerville. He was the dear brother of John Corey and his wife Joan,Paul Corey and his partner Theresa McDonald, Julie Corey and her wife Cindy “CJ” Keene and the late Anthony Corey and his wife Colleen. Eddie is also survived by near and dear great friend Daniel Moshen. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, In-laws and many dear friends.
A Funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) on Monday, August 28th at 9:00AM. Followed by a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery at 10:00AM.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, August 27th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. Words of remembrance will be held at 3:30PM.
Services will conclude with Eddie being laid to rest with his beloved wife at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
