RITA’S OBITUARY
McCarthy, Rita Y (Bergami) – Of Somerville, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 30, 2023.
She was 77.
Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of Arthur and Irene (Jeffery) Bergami. Rita was a graduate of St. Clements High School class of 1963, she went on to earn an associate’s degree from The Chandler School in Boston. In her professional life she was a secretary.
Rita loved to bake and decorate cakes, her love for baking was shown during the holidays, where she would bring her delicious cookies. Her favorite activity was her scrapbooking and she was rarely seen without her camera. On her down time, you could find her in her garden tending to her flowers, everyone in the neighborhood would say she had one of the best gardens on the street. One thing Rita always loved to do was spend time with her family, her love and devotion to them was endless. She will be missed by all.
Rita was the devoted mother of Lisa McCarthy of Danvers, Scott McCarthy and his wife Melissa of Medford and Steven McCarthy of Somerville. She was the beloved grandmother of Brenden, Samantha, Bryan and Kylie. The cherished sister of Arthur Bergami and his wife Carol of Stoughton, Alan Bergami and his wife Sarah of Medford. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The family would like to thank Scott Barrett from Care Dimensions Hospice for his care and dedication to Rita, you made a difficult time a little easier, our mother enjoyed your visits.
A Funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) on Saturday, July 8th at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church 512 High St. Medford, at 10:00AM.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be Friday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.
Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rita’s name to Care Dimensions Hospice.
