Somerville/Medford Remembering Giannina C. “Jenny” (Fiorenzio) Ciano

Giannina C. “Jenny” (Fiorenzio) Ciano, Of Somerville, passed away on March 20th at 89 years old.

Jenny was born and raised in Gaeta, Italy, the daughter of the late Ugo and Luigia (Socorsso) Fiorenzio. She left Italy to follow her loving husband, Gennaro (Gerry) Ciano, to America, eventually settling in Somerville, MA (where she lived most of her life.) It was in Somerville that they raised their two children, Antoinette and Nicholas and Jenny provided an abundance of love to her only grandson, Jared Ciano.

Jenny’s life was all about family. She lived for her husband, children and her grandson. She is well remembered for warmly opening her cottage in Wareham to the extended family, where siblings, both hers and Gerry’s, nieces and nephews and friends enjoyed her loving hospitality and cooking.

Jenny was the oldest of six siblings. The only surviving sibling is her sister, Margerita Viola, who lives in Italy. Jenny will be joining her husband of 62 years and her other siblings Pasquale, Cosmo, Gina and Benedetto Fiorenzio in heaven. She is survived by her children, daughter-in-law Gail Ciano, grandson, Pasquale’s wife, Rosa, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Jenny’s family on Saturday, March 25th from 10 to 12 PM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a funeral service at 12 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Emblematic of the strong person she was, despite a diagnosis metastatic breast cancer with three to six months to live, she survived more than six years. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Giannina’s name to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St., Suite 250, Framingham, MA 01701.
