MARVIN’S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
Spitzer, Marvin H.— 101, Of Somerville passed away on December 20, 2022 in his home surrounded by family.
Born in Linville, VA, Marvin served as a WWII Coast Guard Veteran on an ammunition ship. While in service, he met and married the love of his life, Eva, while she was singing for the USO. Settling in Somerville, Marvin was employed as a master electrician at the US Navy Yard in Charlestown, MA. He was a lover of music and played various instruments. Deeply religious, Marvin regularly sang in the choir of his local parish and served as an usher. In his later years, Marvin enjoyed tinkering around the house, cooking for holiday gatherings and going on day trips with his family. Marvin’s sense of humor and pleasant demeanor made him a joy to be around. He will be missed terribly by all those who knew and loved him.
Beloved husband of 76 years to Eva R. (Morandi) Spitzer. Devoted father of Edward Spitzer and his companion Barbara of North Reading, Patricia Durgin and her late husband Albert of Somerville. Cherished grandfather of Danielle Prigmore, Jodi Vachon and her husband Jeffrey, and the late Brian Spitzer. Loving great-grandfather of Liam Prigmore. Also survived by many other relatives and friends. Late WWII U.S Coast Guard Veteran.
A funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.), Somerville will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Benedict Church 25 Arlington St., Somerville at 10:00.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
