Stabbing at Medford High School

At approximately 10:10am on Monday, December 19, 2022, the Medford Police Department responded to Medford High School (489 Winthrop Street) for a report of a person that had been stabbed.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers were able to determine that a fight had taken place between two students in a men’s bathroom. During the fight, one student was stabbed in the torso and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A second student was taken into custody shortly thereafter and transported to Medford Police Headquarters. A shelter-in-place was issued for the entire school which lasted approximately three hours in order for an investigation to be conducted. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no on-going threat to the school faculty and students.

We are working in conjunction with Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, Medford School Department, Medford Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to ensure the safety and integrity of the school environment in order to resume school tomorrow. There will be a visible police presence at Medford High School throughout the week.
