Real Life Somerville Police Stories: (Possess Class B) (Saugus Warrant)

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 6:08pm, Somerville Dispatch received a call regarding a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Broadway and Mt. Vernon Street.

Officer Lambert arrived on scene first and ran a query for the vehicles involved in the crash. The results showed the owner/operator of the striking vehicle (MA XXXX), had an outstanding warrant out of Lynn District Court. Officer Lambert identified the defendant as Michael SAWLER and placed him under arrest.

When I arrived on scene with Officer Messaoudi we checked on the operator of the involved vehicles and assessed the damage on both vehicles, then requested a tow truck and conducted an inventory of the defendant’s vehicle.

During the inventory, officer Messaoudi located a wallet, $240 in cash, a pack of cigarettes and a “Wakko Exotics Air Headz” marijuana packaging bag sticking out from the seat cushions in plain view in the back seat. The Wakko Exotics bag had a zip-loc like seal with a transparent bottom. The bag contained 15 small, white, round pills labeled “M” on one side and “30” on the other. Based on Officer Messaoudi’s training and experience, he recognized the pills as 30mg pills of Morphine, a class B substance.

I then checked the center console and documented a phone charger, phone, and multiple sets of keys. I also located a loose pill identical to the ones already found in an open compartment in front of the gear shifter. Upon closer look, I was able to confirm that it too, was a morphine pill.

The defendant was then charged with c. 94C S34: Possession of a Class B Drug.

The pills were properly tagged and placed into evidence.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Pats Towing.

Respectfully,

Officer Barton #367
Somerville Police Department
