Mr. Richard E. Payzant, of Somerville, passed away on August 27, 2022,he was 87. Born and raised in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Hilda (Swallow) and Earl Payzant. A graduate of Rindge Technical High School he also enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Army Occupation of Berlin and Good Conduct medals.

The beloved husband of the late Dorothea J. (Andrews) Payzant, he was the devoted father of Dorothea “Dotty” Payzant of Somerville, Rene Payzant of Medford, Richard Payzant and his partner Nancy Jackson of Somerville and Michelle Payzant of Medford. Cherished grandfather of Tiffany and her husband David, Andrew and his wife Bri, Brandon, Austin, Tanya and Ricky and great-grandfather of Carys, Devin and Nathan, Rayden and Lorenzo, Penelope and Quinton and Jack and Alice. Dear brother of the late Hope Fitzgibbon, Anita Payzant and Earl Payzant, Jr. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Friday at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Union Sq. Somerville at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Calling Hours Thursday 4-7pm.
Interment will be private.
