Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line: Ward 7 City Councilor Ballantyne Has No Climate Priorities

Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line,

Climate Priorities NOT. An eco system in West Somerville was destroyed in Ward 7 under her watch. Katjana Ballantyne allowed dozens of 100 foot mature trees to be chopped down located at 501 Mystic Valley PKWY in West Somerville THE DAY PRIOR to the tree ordinance that went into effect so that a developer could come in and build a 90 unit condo on an acre property after razing the only dwelling, a single home that currently sits on the property. Thanks to William Tauro for exposing this in his paper!

As a result the neighborhood and and seniors who live next door caught wind of this huge development plan, united and and had the development stopped. Now the trees are gone and its so sad. We played there as kids and it was our little forest/eco system in West Somerville. You could smell nature when you past by. Many of us could see those beautiful treetops from our windows. Now when we see those huge stumps that are still in the ground it makes us all sick. She is a hypocrite when it comes to climate priorities imposing a tree ordinance the following day.
