New Initiatives Announced
January 6 marked the first day of the new term for Somerville’s elected officials, and the last inauguration ceremony to take place in the old high school. U.S. Senator Ed Markey welcomed the officials to the stage and praised Somerville’s position as a “model for the rest of the country.”
Members of the public heard from Mayor Curtatone, who was sworn in for his ninth term, as well as incoming City Council President Matt McLaughlin and School Committee President Carrie Normand. They laid out their vision for the next two years on pressing issues such as housing, climate change, mobility, college access, and the opioid crisis.
