Real Life Somerville Police Stories: Hicham MARCHOUD (Shoplifting, Removal Theft Det. Device) at Assembly Row

On March 12, 2019, I, Officer Tim Van Nostrand, was on duty and assigned to uniform patrol as the Assembly Row unit.

At approximately 8:24pm, I was notified by loss prevention at TJMaxx that Hicham Marchoud, a male well known for shoplifting in the Boston area, had just entered the store. Loss prevention associate XXXX then advised me Marchoud was concealing clothing in a brown paper bag that he had brought into the store with him. XXXX observed Marchoud conceal the clothing, and walk past all points of purchase out of the store where XXXX identified himself as a TJMaxx employee, and escorted him back to the office.

Marchoud is well known to the Boston area loss prevention community, and has recently been sighted in Somerville. On February 25, 2019, I took a report of shoplifting from Marshalls, located at 22 McGrath Highway, where I was able to positively identify the suspect as Marchoud.

Once inside the office, I advised Marchoud that he was being placed under arrest for shoplifting by asportation. During a subsequent search of his property, Adidas clothing was located, which Marchoud admitted to stealing from the Adidas store in Assembly Row earlier in the night. I also located numerous pipes and other miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, a bag of K2, which is synthetic Marijuana, and a pair of clippers commonly used to remove theft detection devices.

Marchoud was transported to the Somerville police station by Officer Michael Cleary (unit 200) where he was processed by Lt. W. Rymill. Marchoud is charged with Shoplifting by Asportation (266/30A), Shoplifting by Concealment (266/30A), and Possession of a theft removal device (266/30B). TJMaxx will preserve security footage which will be entered in to evidence. Marchoud was also trespassed from TJMaxx.

The synthetic marijuana was entered into evidence for destruction.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Tim Van Nostrand
