Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Eddie Abate on his passing.

Eddie was a wonderful person as well as a personal friend to many of us here at the News.

Eddie will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

A letter from Mayor Gene Brune in memory of Eddie:

So very sad to hear of the passing of Eddie Abate my dear friend for over 40 years. I am so happy that I just recently paid him a visit at the Assisted Living in West Somerville where he was presently living.  I first met Eddie when he was my mail man. He loved my two daughters Corrine and Debbie when they were just 8 and 9 years old and they in turn love him still today. Eddie was always one of my biggest supporters when I first ran for Alderman in Ward 6 where he resided and also when I was a candidate for Mayor. My thoughts and prayers are with his two daughters Susan and Jennifer. I will miss Eddie as well, I am sure, along with all his many friends at the senior center and those he touch throughout his life time.
