Meet this week’s “Special Person of the Week:Joann Bocca- Rivieccio
After JoAnn lost her son Franke , who fought a 10 year battle of addiction until his passing on November 15th 2009. Franke sustained injuries do to a motorcycle accident. He was prescribed oxycontin in which he asked,” Is this medication addictive?” He never got an answer and found out the hard way. She became very involved as a advocate for addiction awareness.
Starting in 2013, she as well as many others formed the group called Somerville Overcoming Addiction. She wanted to do more to help parents and loved ones with their losses as well as help them get available services, she became a Recovery Coach.
She in 2014 became a member of SCATV and with Yvette Wilks help started a bi-monthly live show called Somerville Overcoming Addiction in which ended up becoming a weekly show that is still running and in its 4th year. Recently she started writing articles for the Somerville News Weekly, spreading awareness of the dangers of addiction and where to get that needed help. A vigil is held very year the date and location for the 7th Annual vigil will be announced in the near future.
JoAnn also has joined the Somerville Lion’s Club to further assist people in need. She is always lending a helping hand whenever asked and she I s always the first to volunteer in various local charities in the city.
JoAnn was awarded two awards one for Best Live SCATV Show Host and the second Best Informational SCATV show at this year’s SOMERVILLE MEDIA CENTER 2019 SMC HONORS GALA.
