261 “Sanctuary Cities” to Lose Millions in Funding; Here’s The List
The Trump Administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration continues with further pressure on sanctuary cities.
The Daily Signal reports that the Justice Department has confirmed that it will block Byrne Justice Assistance Grants, which account for the lion’s share of federal aid to states and localities for criminal justice, from sanctuary cities, specifically jurisdictions that keep Immigration and Customs Enforcement from talking to local officials and interviewing inmates, or not notifying ICE when they release aliens ICE wants to deport.

For the record: “losing money” implies that we receive money from this very specific grant directly and without a vetting process. As with all grants, they are allocated on an as needed basis and is much more likely that whatever these cities receives from the septic grant comes via the State–as is the vast majority of this specific grant’s allocation mechanics. And even then it is likely a relatively small amount of money (remember it’s TAX money, so its money we’ve already paid into).
Let’s not continue to paint Sanctuary City status as something deprivating Somerville of anything significant financially–especially when it comes at the behest of questionable tactics bordering on Constitutional violations. But then I understand that doesn’t suit your narrative here. Facts are tricky that way.
