Municipal zoning regulations throughout MA are freezing people out of our communities. The gap between progressive rhetoric and regressive zoning needs to be eliminated. This was written by a Newton city councilor, but it holds true throughout the greater Boston region. It’s why we’re in danger of falling 450,000 housing units short of demand.
In Somerville we have proposed a zoning ordinance that would set a new standard for every municipality in the region – one that balances transit-oriented housing, affordable housing, open space, commercial development, existing neighborhoods and a thriving arts community. We’ve done the work and we’re ready to lead this region forward. We just need to enact it.
