This is a perfect example of why Somerville is a sanctuary city. We want the victims of crimes to be able to come forward. We want to arrest domestic abusers. That makes our community safer. Driving people underground, making them fearful to report crimes because they or someone close to them might get rounded up for deportation ultimately puts more criminals on our streets.
There’s a difference between paperwork and actual criminal behavior, and it will be the best thing that ever happened to violent, unscrupulous people if we give them millions of easy targets who can’t speak up when they’re preyed upon.
