This past Wednesday afternoon, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the City of Somerville celebrated a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Gilman Street Bridge Replacement Project.
The $11.6 million Gilman Street Bridge project work consisted of removing the old superstructure, replacing it with a new bridge that now has 2 sidewalks, 3 lanes of traffic each way, a raised median and a new bridge barrier screen along the existing retaining wall, across the bridge, and on to the first intersection to the north.
The project also included $2.6 million worth of interim improvements for McGrath Highway.
