Senator Jehlen Endorsed by Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund

Legislator Among Early Endorsements, Credit to Strong Record on Environment

BOSTON – The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund today endorsed Senator Patricia Jehlen, D-Somerville, for reelection in the Second Middlesex State Senate district, a credit to her work on behalf of the environment in the Legislature the last two years.

With critical issues of energy policy and environmental protection currently being debated in the legislature, the leadership of the ELM Action Fund believes it is important to return proven environmental champions like Jehlen to the Senate Chamber.

“Senator Jehlen understands the importance of our state investing in clean energy, sustainable transportation, and parks to help address climate change, create jobs, and build healthier communities,” said ELM Action Fund Political Director Joe O’Brien. “Senator Jehlen has been a strong advocate for environmental protection, public health and the MBTA. She has been an ally on efforts to clean up the Mystic River and protect ratepayers from subsidizing unneeded gas pipelines.”

“As an environmentalist who has brought people together to clean up the Mystic River, expand public transit, and promote renewable energy, I am delighted to have the endorsement of an essential leader in these efforts, the Environmental League of Massachusetts,” said Senator Jehlen

First elected to the House of Representatives in 2005, Jehlen is up for reelection this year and is being challenged in the Democratic primary on September 8th. For more information about her campaign, please visit her web page at http://www.patjehlen.org.

The ELM Action Fund helps pass laws that protect our environmental legacy, holds our elected officials accountable and works to help build the political power of the environmental community.

This fall, the ELM Action Fund will be working to educate and mobilize voters in key legislative races across the state. To support this work, the ELM Action Fund has created two new entities to help elect candidates, the ELM Action Fund Independent Expenditure PAC and the ELM Action Fund State PAC.

Last fall, the ELM Action Fund and the national League of Conservation Voters launched a new affiliation and an aggressive plan to flex the environmental community’s policy muscle in Massachusetts. The groups have backed pro-environment state lawmakers in special elections, begun rolling out its “dirty dozen” lawmakers with the lowest environmental ratings and continued its strong advocacy on key issues this legislative session.
