Victims of the Somerville Rush Street Fire Need Your Support!

Dear Friend of East Somerville Main Streets,

I am sure by now most of you have heard about the news of the devastation that happened on the night between Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th on the fire that destroyed several families’ homes on Rush Street; yes, right here in East Somerville!
The turnaround from the entire community has been amazing. We are especially grateful for the generosity and immediate response of Federal Realty and Holiday Inn Hospitality Group. In addition, the list of non profit organizations, schools staff, and the many departments and employees from the city of Somerville coordinating aid for these people is amazing. I am impressed and feel very privileged to be part of this community.
I am copying the last information that was sent out by the city for dissemination regarding most needed items, place to take donations, and link to make cash donations.

“We have received multiple inquiries on how to best help the families who were impacted by the fire on Rush St/Brook St. Please know that most of the families have lost everything. That being said, given this transient time in their lives, we don’t want to overload them and make it more difficult for families to be easily mobile. In interviewing the families, we have generated the following list. Please make sure that the clothing (particularly undergarments) are new or in excellent condition and pre-laundered. All the families could use duffle bags or new rolling luggage bags for them to transport items. All items can be delivered to the Cummings School (42 Prescott), through the purple door off of the Prescott Playground area between 8:30am – 3:00pm. Thank you for your generosity.
