Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Melanie WILLIAMS Shoplifting at Assembly Square TJ Maxx

On Monday, May 02, 2016 at 7:35 P.M., I received a call from TJ Maxx Loss Prevention Agent, XXXXX, stating she had observed a female place items of clothing and comforter in a shopping cart and exit the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

XXXXX stopped the female shoplifter outside the store and escorted her back to the loss prevention office.

I responded to TJ Maxx along with Officer Sousa and identified the female as Melanie Williams. I asked Ms. Williams if she had any form of identification on her and she sated “No.” Ms. Williams was carrying an empty handbag, and had no cash or credit / debit cards on her.

Four packs of men’s underwear and one comforter (total value $ 112.95) were recovered from the shopping cart Ms. Williams had in her possession.

I placed Ms. Williams under arrest for shoplifting by asportation. While escorting Ms. Williams out of the store she started pulling away from me and stated “Stop f***ing touching me.” I informed Ms. Williams that she was under arrest, and for her safety she will be escorted to the prisoner transport.

Ms. Williams was transported to the Somerville Police Headquarters via unit 200, operated by Officer Fusco and booked by Lieutenant DiGregorio.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Samir Messaoudi #312

Somerville Police Dept.
