February 10, 2016 (Boston) – State Senator Patricia Jehlen was named an inaugural Legislator of the Year by the Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association (Mass-ALFA). Mass-ALFA President and Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Healthcare Financing Senator Richard T. Moore presented Jehlen with her award during a ceremony as part of Assisted Living Advocacy Day at the Massachusetts State House in Boston on January 27. Senator Jehlen was recognized for her work improving the lives of older adults in Massachusetts.

The award itself took the form of a painting created by Joan Mooney, a local artist currently residing in the Christopher Heights assisted living residence in Attleboro, MA. For her award, Mooney painted a watercolor portrait of an Irish thatched cottage.

Senator Jehlen was first elected to the Massachusetts Senate in 2005, and currently represents the Second Middlesex District, including the towns of Medford, Somerville, Winchester and Cambridge. Senator Jehlen is also the Senate Chair of the Committee on Elder Affairs, co-chairs the LGBT Aging Commission and the Elder Economic Commission, and is a member of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Commission.
