Real Life Somerville Police Stories: Shoplifting at Assembly Row Somerville

On 12/27/15 at approximately 2:25 PM, I, Officer Mark Pulli badge #311, while assigned to Assembly Row Unit Alpah-2, was dispatched to Kmart for a report of a male shoplifter who had just left the store.

Upon arrival I met Kmart Loss Prevention agent XXXXX as he was walking quickly through the parking lot. XXXXX stated he observed Christopher Macinnes who is known to XXXXX and myself from previous incidents, select multiple Nexxus hair products and a men’s watch and conceal them in his backpack. XXXXX stated Macinnes left the store quickly and was now walking through the parking lot toward Middlesex Ave.

I contacted Officer Schneider and Officer Jaquet, East-4, who were in the area to assist me, and provided them with Macinnes’ path of flight. They quickly stopped Macinnes at the corner of Middlesex Ave and Foley St. Macinnes was apprehended last week by Kmart Loss Prevention for stealing over $300 in merchandise from Kmart. At that time Macinnes was issued a trespass order from Kmart. XXXXX recovered his merchandise, including some additional Kmart merchandise (razors and perfume), total dollar amount of $146.54.

During a search of Macinnes’ backpack I located three watches that still had price tags on them and appeared to be brand new. I conducted a follow-up investigation at TJ Maxx where I was able to determine that the watches were part of their inventory and had not been purchased (total value $74.97).

Macinnes was placed under arrest and charged with Trespassing MGL c266 s120, Larceny Under $250 MGL c266 s30C, and Receiving Stolen Property MGL c266 s60B.

Macinnes was transported to the Somerville Police Dept. via the mobile detention unit and book according to department policy by Lt. Sheehan.

Respectfully Submitted,

Officer Mark Pulli #311
