The Somerville High Girls Track Team competed In the MIAA Division 1 State Meet held at Cawley Stadium in Lowell on Saturday May 30. Nine girls qualified for the meet and all performed very well. Junior Gabrielle Etienne earned a State Championship by winning the Shot Put with a throw of 38’0″.
Gabby also competed in the Discus placing 11th with a throw of 93′ 4″. Gabby will represent Somerville High School at the Massachusetts State Finals on Saturday June 6th at Fitchburg State College. Field Events will start at 1pm. Also scoring for the Highlanders was Senior Captain Sarasgrace Magre who placed 8th in the Long Jump with a jump of 33′ 7.5″.
Qualifying and competing in the Division 1 meet were Freshman Youdine Felix who ran 13.45 in the 100m dash and long jumped 15′ 7″. Freshman Lourdes Jean-Louis also competed in the 100m running 14.21. Junior Melissa Sanon jumped 31′ 10″ in the Triple Jump and then ran 17.47 in the 100m Hurdles. Frosh Jackie Eloi qualified in the 100m Hurdles and ran 18.89. We had two relays qualify for the States and both ran their fastest time of the year. The 4x100m relay team of Loudes Jean-louis, Saragrace Magre, Melissa Sanon and Youdine Felix ran a very fast 51.75, which was three seconds faster than their seed time. The 4x400m relay also ran three seconds faster than their qualifying time running a very nice 4:21.29. Running on that team was Freshman Savanna Collins-Silva, senior Catherine Nakato, Lourdes Jean-louis and Saragrace Magre.
