MONAHAN Arrest

for an attempted breaking and entering.

Upon our arrival, we were met with a male party standing on the sidewalk directly in front of this location. This party was later identified as a Mr. Kevin Monahan. Mr. Monahan stated that he was visiting from New York and was staying with friends who lived at 61 Derby St. He stated that he “panicked and was afraid” because he could not get in contact with his friends and had no way of entering their apartment. Monahan stated to me that in order to gain access to the apartment he began banging and punching the glass area on the residence’s back door (belonging to 59 Derby St). I examined Mr. Monahan’s fists and knuckles and they appeared to be red and slightly swollen.

I also spoke with the reporting party and victim, Ms. Carla Walsh, who resides at 59 Derby St. Ms. Walsh stated that she was asleep in her bedroom when she heard a very loud banging coming from the door located in the back of her residence. She then heard the sound of the glass breaking. She immediately called the police and was waiting by her front door upon our arrival. Officer Sousa examined Ms. Walsh’s back door and took several pictures of the broken glass, these will be attached to this report. Ms. Walsh also stated that while waiting for the police’s arrival she heard noise and banging coming from next door (61 Derby St). Officer Pulli went to examine this location and noticed that the residence door had several dents along the bottom and had appeared to be kicked several times. Pictures of this damage were also taken and will be attached to this report.

At this time, I placed Mr. Monahan under arrest for Malicious Destruction of Property in violation of M.G.L. c266 s126A. Monahan was transported to the Somerville Police Station via Unit-200 operated by Officer Wolff and booked according to department policy by Lt. Campbell.
