Obituary
Bernard J. Regan passed away surrounded by the love of his family on June 12, 2025, he was 91. Born in Medford and raised in Somerville, he was one of nine children born to Loretta (Kelley) and Thomas Regan.
He served honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War, returning home he became a printer by trade.
The beloved husband of the late Joanne (Flewelling) Regan, he was her dedicated caretaker during her cancer battle. Devoted to family, Bernie would assume both roles as parents in raising their children after her passing. He created many family memories during adventures with his kids and later his grandchildren. Together they enjoyed trips to the beach, especially Hampton. Bernie was a passionate sports fan, supporting all the Boston teams, most especially the Patriots and Celtics. He will be remembered by many for his sense of humor, his kind and genuine nature and above all; his love of family.
Bernie is the loving father of Bernard F. Regan and his wife Debra of Melrose, Martha Ross of Brighton, Colorado, Colleen Malone and her husband Charles of Williamsburg, Virginia, Kelly Barba of Waltham and the late Karen Regan Szklar. Cherished grandfather of Peter Regan and his wife Beth, Thomas Regan and his wife Lauren, Amy Murphy and her husband Robert, Grace and Isabella Barba and great grandfather of Vincent, Theodore, Benjamin and Delilah. Dear brother of the late Thomas, Paul, Robert, James, Francis, Walter, Joseph Regan and Mary McCauley and loved by many nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Monday, June 16th from 4:00PM – 7:00PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, June 17th in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford at 10:00AM, please meet directly at church. A private burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford at a later date.
