Mystic Players Revival Company

[Medford, Massachusetts] – The Mystic Players Revival, Inc. theater company is thrilled to announce that it has received a grant of $2,500 from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, through its Festivals and Projects Program. This initiative aligns closely with our mission to provide the community with a year-round schedule of live theater, produced to serve the cultural, educational and entertainment needs of the community, and we are excited about the positive impact this funding will have on the citizens of Medford.

This grant signifies that The Mystic Players Revival, Inc. company provides significant public value through its programs and services. MPR serves the City of Medford as a public opportunity for theatrical performance and community involvement. The former Mystic Players theater company ran successfully for many years entertaining the city, and the Revival company intends to continue that tradition. MPR, Inc.’s “Impromptu Library Nights” have already provided dozens of Medford citizens of all ages the opportunity to sing and act in front of small audiences, and this grant has enabled the group to secure a performance arena for its first formal production, The Mystic Cabaret. The show will go up at the McGlynn Middle School at 7:00pm, February 28th and March 1st, 2025. With a talented 25-person cast, this inaugural performance is sure to entertain the Medford community and beyond!

“This grant awarded to Mystic Players Revival, Inc. represents more than just financial support—it’s a commitment to supporting creativity and performance, enriching our cultural landscape, and providing opportunities for local artists to thrive,” said Governor Maura Healey. “The impact of this grant will be felt far beyond the walls of this theatre and will positively impact the wider community for years to come. I’m grateful to the Mass Cultural Council for supporting arts and culture across our state and congratulate Mystic Players Revival, Inc. on this great achievement.”

For this fiscal year, Mass Cultural Council has adopted a $34 million spending plan, allowing the Agency to award at least 2,500 grants totaling approximately $38 million to the Commonwealth’s creative and cultural sector. This is funded primarily through public dollars, including the Agency’s $26.7 million state budget appropriation and support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The agency also runs the Mass Cultural Facilities Fund in partnership with MassDevelopment.

Mass Cultural Council funds reach every community in the Commonwealth. Its mission is to advance the Commonwealth’s creative and cultural sector by celebrating traditions and talents, championing its collective needs, and equitably investing public resources.

“We are deeply grateful to the Mass Cultural Council for their trust and support,” said Margaret Petrella, President of Mystic Players Revival, Inc. “This grant is a testament to our shared commitment to the arts. With this funding, we will be able to provide a more formal arena for theatrical performance, ultimately benefiting Medford citizens of all ages.”
