Richard C. Kinne, of Somerville passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, following an operation. He was 59 years old. Richard was the beloved son of the late Dale R. and Barbara A. (Connor) Kinne.

From a young age, he nurtured a deep passion for the sky and the universe, which ultimately led him to a fulfilling career as an astronomer. His enthusiasm for uncovering the mysteries of the cosmos was contagious; he delighted in sharing his discoveries with those around him.

Later in life, Richard transitioned to teaching at the Kennedy School in Somerville. His joy came from seeing the wonder in his students’ eyes as they learned and grew. He believed in the power of education and dedicated himself to inspiring young minds.

In his downtime, Richard loved relaxing on the couch, watching sci-fi movies with his partner, Morgan. He was also an avid amateur radio enthusiast, hosting the Official Relay Station, where he reported local traffic. His community spirit shone brightly in all he did.

A longtime parishioner of Arlington Street Church in Boston, Richard met his beloved partner while ringing the bells one Sunday morning—a testament to his belief in connection and community. He was also a devoted cat lover, often sharing his home with feline companions who brought him immense joy.

He was the devoted partner of 13 years to Morgan Johnstone of Somerville. The beloved brother of Kristen Hall and her husband Earl G. Hall of Rome, NY. Cherished uncle of Morghan and Ethan Hall both of Rome, NY. Loving fur-dad to Odin and Lucas. Also survived by many loving cherished friends and extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
