Obituary
Alphonse Villefranc, of Somerville, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, following a long life focused on his faith and family. He was 95 years old.
Born and raised in Hinche, Haiti, Alphonse was the son of the late Caman and Estela (Antoine) Vilfranc. He was deeply proud of his heritage and cherished sharing the rich history and culture of Haiti with those around him. His travels took him from Haiti throughout South America and finally to the United States, where he lived in New York City, Worcester, MA and Sabana Grande, PR. Although exiled from his country, his cultural roots were a cornerstone of his life, and he worked to instill this deep appreciation into his family.
A man of profound faith, Alphonse allowed his spirituality to guide him through life. He was known for his love of family, with his beloved wife, Lillian, holding a special place in his heart. He often spoke of the moment he met her, recalling it as love at first sight.
When he wasn’t immersed in a good book, Alphonse could be found tending to his garden, a testament to his passion for agriculture. Other pastimes he loved included taking long walks, watching soccer and sharing his love of language by tutoring students in French.
Alphonse will be missed by all for his unwavering love, wisdom, and joy.
Beloved husband of 45 years to Lillian (Martinez-Velez) Villefranc. Devoted father of Jacques Villefranc and his wife Siobhan O’Brien of Wakefield, Carmen Villefranc and her husband Jorbyn Barcho of Worcester and Miguel Villefranc. Loving grandfather of Rory and August Villefranc, Wilfredo Crespo, Gabriel Garcia, and Natalia Barcho. Dear brother of Madeleine Vilfranc and the late Salnave, Casius, Thesia and Dilamand Vilfranc. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
