Enjoy Free Music, Games and Refreshments and Learn About Proposed Neighborways for Glen and Otis Streets

SOMERVILLE – Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward One Councilor Matthew McLaughlin, and City of Somerville staff
are inviting all community members to a block party to share exciting upcoming safety improvements to Glen Street and Otis Street. The event will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Somerville Community School. 

The City of Somerville is partnering with
local non-profits
CultureHouse
and
Neighborways
Design
to create Neighborways on Glen Street and Otis Street. Neighborways are
designed to create safer and more comfortable environments for pedestrians,
cyclists, and residents, and are designed to prioritize the needs of local residents and emphasize a sense of community and livability.

This Neighborsways project will use quick-build
traffic-calming
techniques and materials such as pavement markings, vertical plastic posts, and planters to improve safety on the street without major structural changes. Learn more about Neighborways in

After hearing from community members through door-to-door outreach and cider socials, the team has developed
potential designs for the street that they’ll share as part of the block party.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their feedback on the proposals. Music, refreshments,
and games will be provided. Information about proposed designs will also be made available on the
project
website following the block party.  

This project is made possible through American Rescue Plan Act funds intended to support collaborative
