Alexandria Nunweiler with collaborative dance company The Click presents a new dance/theater work “Edge of Aquarius.” The performance takes inspiration from the surprisingly strange phenomenon of birthdays – the rituals surrounding them, the odd bonds people have with others who share theirs, the increasing malaise about them as people age, and the rites of passage and physical milestones they represent.

Several years in the back of her mind as an idea, Nunweiler was compelled to create the work when iconic actress Betty White died just shy of her 100th birthday. (She and White shared a January 17 birthday.) Interwoven with personal stories from performers, fun and irreverent props, and fascinating birthday lore, this piece takes a microscope to aging and the way we celebrate and commemorate milestones. Cake is involved.

Somerville-based composer Benjamin Cuba created new works and an original sound score. Somerville-based dancer Katrina Conte performs.

Katrina Conte is a dancer and choreographer and graduated with her BFA in Dance with a minor in Technical Theater from Ball State University. She has had the opportunity to work with Sidra Bell, Jamy Meek, Shen Wei Dance Arts, Noa Shadur and Kairos Dance Theater. Katrina also has a passion for lighting design; she designed several dance shows at Ball State, and has had the opportunity to work as a technical crew member for Terri O’Conner, Rosie Herrera Dance Theater, Paul Taylor, Pilobolus, and Shen Wei Dance Arts.

Benjamin Cuba works as a ballet pianist and dance-class accompanist for Boston Conservatory, Emerson College, and Greater Boston School of Dance. He has composed music for Alive Dance Collective, The Click, Somerville ArtBeat, and NACHMO ’19, ’20, ’22, and ’23. He also plays bass for the band Midnight Motion. He is a multi-instrumentalist, accompanist, and composer.
