Somerville/Medford Remembering Grace M. Ganat

Grace M. (Piraino) Ganat, of Somerville, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on December 27, 2023. She was 89. Born in Boston, she was the cherished daughter of the late Angela (DeVincentis) and Anthony Piraino.

She was the beloved wife of the late Francis M. “Fuz” (Genatossio) Ganat. They were married for 60 years before his passing in 2016. Together they raised their large family on Bailey Street in Somerville. In earlier years, Grace worked for the Department of Defense as an administrative professional and retired following many years of service. Family was foremost in Grace’s life, and she enjoyed nothing more than gatherings and holidays and watching the comings and goings of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grace was the loving and devoted mother of Mary Kroner and her husband Monte of Wellesley, Frank Ganat and his wife Laura of Arlington, Angela Whelan and her husband Joe of Hyannis, Judy Cooper and her husband Jim of Reading, Meg Comeau of Haverhill and Grace McKay and her husband Mike of Salem, NH. She was the cherished grandmother of Tom (Kate) and Michael (Daniella) Hurley, Amy Gregoire, Andrea Hurtado (Andres)and Erica Patuto (Joey), Sean, Jenna and Katie Cooper, Erin Welshoff (Brendan), Paige and Carly McKay, Bailey Kroner and great-grandmother of Luci, Josie, Susannah Gregoire and Frankie Burdych, Max and Roman Hurtado, Alexa, Rocco and Dominic Patuto, Teddy, Benny, Penny, Olive and Ruby Hurley. Dear sister of Paul Piraino of Reading and the late Marguerite Muir and Anthony Piraino.

Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Tuesday, January 2nd 2024 from 4:00PM – 7:00PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Funeral Procession the following morning, January 3rd at 10:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford at 11:00AM. Interment will be private.
