Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line: I Grew Up in the Somerville Boxing Club

Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line,

Today I feel like a part of my life is changing drastically, I grew up in the somerville boxing club, I met so many new people, so many amazing people I am still close to to this day. The gym brought structure to so many peoples lives & so much growth to everyone.

It was also a safe place for anyone & everyone. If you know stoney, my father, Bruce, Alex or anyone associated with the gym you know the kind of people they are. They gym gave me Andrew Rivera, someone I grew so close with & grew up with. Even though it will still be a thing & possibly a new location its just upsetting when you grew up in one environment thats not changed & just randomly changes is very saddening. Even though i have not gone in awhile i definitely put a lot of my time & effort in for years, me and andrew made so many memories with the classes, cleaning, vinnys trips, sitting in the office, playing hide & seek every saturday. Also a memory I will never forget is Mattie Fitzgerald walking through those doors calling my name. Thank you Somerville Boxing club for the memories ❤️
