Virtual Hearing Will Allow Public to Provide Feedback on Special Committee on Charter Review’s Proposed Changes to Somerville City Charter
SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville is announcing a Public Hearing before the City Council’s Special Committee on Charter Review, that is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 6 p.m. Members of the Somerville community are encouraged to join the virtual hearing to share their thoughts regarding the proposed updates to the City Charter.
Attendees can join the hearing virtually by via the GoToWebinar registration link: attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6828112774658855259, which is also available on the Somerville City Council’s calendar. Registration for the meeting will be open until the meeting begins. After registering, participants will receive an email with instructions on how to join the webinar.
Community members who are unable to attend the meeting, but wish to make their voices heard, are welcome to email their comments to email@example.com, or send them by US mail to the City Clerk, 93 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02143, or drop them into the secure drop box outside the back door on the School Street side of City Hall.
Public comments must arrive no later than 12 p.m. on May 10, in order to be ensure they are conveyed to the Council.
The City of Somerville’s Charter serves as its local constitution, creating a structure for City government. The Charter establishes the key institutions of City government and defines the relationship and powers between the Mayor, the City Council and the School Committee. The charter review process seeks to comprehensively review the current charter and to recommend changes to ensure Somerville’s government meets the current and anticipated needs of residents and is responsive to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
