MAUREEN’S OBITUARY:
Maureen “Bobbie” Bourque Murphy, 78, of Somerville passed away peacefully in her home
surrounded by her family on February 18, 2023.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Catherine Bourque, her sister Barbara Falconer Randall, her son Stephen Murphy,
and her former husband Robert Murphy.
Maureen is survived by her sister Ann Bourque and her daughter Ashley Bourque of Somerville. Maureen was a devoted mother to her children Robert Murphy Jr. and his fiancée Sandra Moloney of Wakefield, Kimberly Hannon of Winchester, and
Kristin O’Connell and her husband Jason O’Connell of Somerville.
Maureen was cherished Nana to Colin and Max, Taryn and Braelyn, Tyler and Teegan, Chloe and Ciaran, Stephen and
Alexis. Maureen is also survived by Salvatore Vasta, numerous nephews, nieces, and extended
family.
Ambitious and ahead of her time, Maureen opened her business REM Answering Service, in
1974 out of her home that was open for over 40 years. Though she was a successful business
woman, Maureen’s true passion in life was her family. She was fiercely protective of all of her
“kids” regardless of where they fit in her life. Everyone was welcome in her home, and to many
young people who grew up in Somerville, she was known simply as “Ma”.
Maureen will be remembered for her glamorous good looks and her iconic style, her love of
Elvis Presley on Sunday mornings, and holiday gatherings where she would most certainly speak
her mind. Most of all, she will be remembered for her kind heart, her fierce loyalty, her love of
children and animals, her amazing strength when things got tough, and her faith in God and her
beloved St. Anthony, Maureen touched so many lives in a positive way. Her presence here will never be forgotten.
A funeral Mass for Maureen was celebrated at St. Clements Church, Somerville on
Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 12:00 noon. Visitation took place at the Doherty Funeral
Home, 855 Broadway Somerville on Saturday February 25, 2023, from 10:00-11:30 AM.
Interment were private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Care Dimensions Hospice Care Danvers for
their incredible care for our mom.
