Real Life Somerville Police Stories: Alexis RODRIGUEZ-PEREZ (Larceny)

I, Officer Roger Desrochers, report the following summary of events based on direct interview with the persons named.

On Thursday, October 14, 2021, I, Officer Desrochers, was in full-uniform and assigned to marked cruiser 182(E2), and patrolling the East district, for the Somerville Police Department when at about 19:10 I was dispatched along with Officer’s Ribeiro & T Lambert to Target, located at 180 Somerville Ave for a reported shoplifting.

Upon our arrival dispatch informed us that a black male, who was wearing a blue sweatshirt, with a tan hoodie underneath, who was carrying a black backpack & a black duffle bag had just stolen and left the store. The RP XXXX, the stores Asset Protection agent stated that the male is a frequent shoplifter, who hits them quick then heads to Sullivan Station. Units responded within minutes to Target and could not find the male in question. We then began to make our way toward the location of Sullivan Station when on Washington Street we located a Hispanic male later identified as Alexis Rodriguez Perez, who was wearing a blue hooded vest and a tan sweatshirt underneath carrying a black backpack and a black duffle bag. I then exited my cruiser and stopped Mr. Rodriguez Perez.

Once stopped Mr. Rodriguez Perez was asked if he was inside Target, to which he replied YES. I then asked him to remove any items inside his bag that he did not pay for or have a receipt for. Mr. Rodriguez Perez removed 3 Hard plastic security cases containing a Nintendo Switch joy Controller each. He also had 2 clear bags inside his duffle bag on which contained 3 more Nintendo Switch Controllers and the second bag that contained 3 PS5 games and 1 PS4 game. 3 of the video games were the same game for the same system. At this point I radioed dispatch with XXXX a MA ID which came back to Mr. Rodriguez Perez. At this point he began to reach into the back of his pants to hide an object, he was told to stop but continued. Mr. Rodriguez was placed into handcuffs behind his back and searched, as the items he was trying to hide was his used needles and paraphernalia.

It should be noted that Mr. Rodriguez Perez has shoplifted at Target a total of 35 times and has a running total of $9,702.65 in lost merchandise. There is video footage of todays events as well as photo’s that will be added. Based off of the above mentioned information Mr. Rodriguez Perez was placed under arrest and transported to the police station by unit 200, operated by Officer R Taylor, where he will be booked by Sergeant D Schneider in the usual manner

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Roger Desrochers #337
