Somerville Remembering Mary Alice Dober

Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Mary Alice Dober on her passing.

Mary Alice Dober was a wonderful person and a great friend to all of us here at the Somerville/Medford News Weekly. For over the past 17 years Mary would call my cell phone every Tuesday, greet us with her amazing cheerful personality and then be waiting for our newspaper delivery to show up at her building’s doorstep.

Mary Alice Dober will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

Mary Alice Dober, beloved daughter of the late James and Betty Dober, died peacefully on June 10th after a brief illness.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Somerville, was predeceased by her sisters Joan Maguire of Hudson, Gerry Salvi of Stoneham, and her brother James Dober of Mansfield.
Mary had many nieces and nephews who meant the world to her, and all of whom will miss her dearly.
Mary loved life and took every chance she could to live it to the fullest. She traveled often, and was a longtime participant at the Somerville Senior Center, where she enjoyed going on every trip and outing possible. She loved nothing more than spending times with family and friends, documenting any occasion with her love of taking photographs.
While she never drove, she knew “her” city well and enjoyed making her way around it, visiting with friends, and seeing the sights.
Visiting hours for Mary will be held, on Monday morning June 14, 2021, from 10:00 – 12:00, in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder house Sq.) Somerville.
Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
In honor of Mary, make a point to do something kind today, smile at a stranger, or help someone in need. She would have liked that.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s memory, to the Somerville Council on Aging, 167 Holland St, Somerville, MA 02144
