Former Somerville boxer leads West Point Boxing Team to overwhelming victory

On Sunday, November 10, 2019 Luca LoConte-Botis, (second from left in photo), captain of the 2019 West Point Boxing Team defeated Erick Fonge Atebezzi the 2019 New England Golden Gloves 165 lb Open Class Champion in a unanimous decision after three hard fought rounds in front of a packed house at Anthony’s of Malden. The West Point Senior and Winchester, Ma native trained and fought out of the Somerville Boxing Club up until his enrollment in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2015. The West Point Team dominated the National Collegiate Boxing Association Tournament winning 12 of the 14 bouts on the card. Boxers from the University of Connecticut,Trinity College, University of Hartford, U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Connecticut Amateur Boxing Association also competed in the tournament.
