You’ve probably noticed the construction in Union Square that is part of the Somerville Avenue Utilities and Streetscape Improvements Project. The next phase of the project is about to start and it will include a detour in the middle of Union Square. The detour is planned for about six months starting in early-November.

Traffic on Somerville Avenue headed eastbound will be detoured between Dane Street and Bow Stree. If you’re headed to Union Square for shopping or to eat at a restaurant, you will be able to drive to Bow Street, but not through the heart of the square. Some stops on MBTA bus routes 85 and 87 between Dane Street and Union Square will also be temporarily closed and relocated during this time.
