City Subcontractor and Police Save Three Baby Squirrels From Somerville Tree Removal

By William Tauro

Somerville Police Officers Ashley Catatao and Nicholas Stiles were assigned to tree removal detail located on Powderhouse Boulevard this past Tuesday

All trees that appeared to be dead and dangerous (falling or toppling over during recent storms) were approved to be removed by the Somerville Tree Warden.

Everything was moving along on schedule when a city tree subcontractor named Josh spotted the baby squirrels as he looked inside and then reached in rescuing them during the tree take down operations.

The babies were snuggled in a hollow section of the tree that wasn’t visible during the initial tree evaluation.

Immediately after the rescue, Josh the subcontractor and the police officers placed the rescued baby squirrels in a shirt then covered them to keep them protected.
