RE:Transfer Tax Fee

Ann says:

The text of the transfer tax memo. Don’t trust the 1%. Ill defined also allows room to expand. Also mentioned potential assistance to businesses. Rumor has it that BOA have promised their votes to Revolution.

RE:Transfer Tax Fee

Jack Mason says:

Holy Cow! They want to add a sales tax on homes. Regardless of who pays it, will negatively effect Somerville home values and so is a tax on home owners. They want to use that home sales tax to help people who make up to 150% of the Boston median income of $110K – That means they want to help people who make around twice as much as most Somerville home owners.

This is a a reverse Robin Hood, robbing the poor to house the well to do.

Insane!

RE:Transfer Tax Fee

Magic Mike says:

People who buy in an areas are taking risk. Renters do not have that risk. If an area goes down the sewer, a renter hands in his 30 day notice and can leave. Buyers do not have that luxury. So when the area goes down, is anyone from Revolution Somerville going to suggest that these homeowners get money from the city to cover their losses? Of course not.

So, the other side of the coin is that when the area does well, the homeowner does well. Yes, I can afford to live in a Condo in Somerville. You know why? Because I grafted very hard for 4 years in undergrad, 3 years in law school, took on $150k in student loans, passed two bar exams, took a low paying clerkship in 2006 (paying $40k) and worked my way up to Partner at a firm over 8 years…..this took many years of hard work and long hours. Many people don’t want to do the hard graft. They just want their “affordable house” given to them. No, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. My father was born in the projects of North Cambridge and died young. My mother was a flight attendant with no college degree. You want to live in Somerville? Figure out a way to make reach your goal and work hard at it.

John L Sullivan says:

Maureen you can contact all the elected officials by email, text, phone or letter and let them know how you feel about this issue. Many of them have already received hundreds of communications since last Thursday and it must continue. Pass this onto everyone you know so more people are aware of the Transfer Tax and to do

RE:Transfer Tax Fee

Not to Board of Aldermen says:

This was important enough that all Somerville Home Owners should have been notified by mail. The board of Alderman are now refusing to notify home owners about a request for input from home owners. If that makes no sense, neither does the sales tax. You major and Alderman under his thumb, want to tax Somerville home owners, whose median household income is $66K/year to help folks that make up $161K a year but can’t afford to buy your home. Doest that make sense to you?

Please write the Alderman to say NO TRANSFER TAX.

RE:Transfer Tax Fee

Jack Mason says:

I’m very disturbed that our Alderman don’t have the balls to tell the Mayor to US mail all home owner about this very important issues. Regardless of who pays this tax, it will significantly effect property values in a negative way in this town, and likely end “Somerville’s Hot Real Estate Market”.

The plan is to help those who make up to 150% of the Boston median income in Boston ($110K/year), so folks making up to $161K/years. The median household income of Somerville Home Owners is only $66K/year. This is a reverse Robin Hood.

Our property values are going to fall, as a properties with transfer tax attached are worth less – no math required and it’s at least as bad as a lien.

It get’s worse – out tax payments will be given to folks who make up to three times what we earn, so they can afford to buy our property.

If your head is spinning, it should be. You are not possessed, but your Alderman appears to be. Write them to tell them NO TRANSFER TAX.

RE:Transfer Tax Fee

Tony says:

rents will have to go up to cover ever increasing property taxes, water and sewer bills, insurance bills. And now they want another tax? If its a rental there is capital gains taxes paid on the sale. plus income taxes on the rents. For the landlords who have a heart and do not increase rents – its difficult when operating expenses increase.

The rules and regulations are turning the city into a highER rent area.

Lastly – everyone should be funding it and not just a select few. Are the alderpeople afraid to say that it should be ALL funding it?

Why hasn’t the Mass State Police Homicide Dept. Taken this cold murder case over a long time ago??

Enough is Enough this family deserves JUSTICE!!

Let the FBI do an investigation. Kathy needs to know Who did this to her Child. Kathy will not get Peace but she should get Justice. Enough let a cold case squad outside of the Somerville Police look into this. R. I.P Deanna
