The Transportation Committee’s hearing also included a bill allowing cities and towns to fine pedestrians for jaywalking. Violators would be fined $25 for a first offense, $50 for a second offense and $100 for subsequent offenses.
The fines would be doubled for pedestrians using a smartphone or similar device as well as for those wearing earbuds or headphones.
The fines should be tripled for those jaywalking with children or pets.
