Somerville Pop Warner Children Plead With Mayor Curtatone for Light But Left in Total Darkness

By William Tauro

Over One Hundred Pop Warner children, members of Somerville Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Team were left in the dark on Tuesday night at Foss Park.
The league is blaming Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone for leaving them in the dark by deliberately depriving them of any source of lighting for their event.
Mayor Curtatone has always been in opposition of the Somerville Pop Warner Football Team. In a previous interview Curtatone told the publisher of this paper to “Stop supporting and covering their events” because he did not like the people who managed the team referring to them as “scum and lowlifes” according to him in his own vindictive words.
Pop Warner Vice President Marsha Hamel McGlashing posted “They know we are there, we have already asked…and asked…..and asked…and asked” referring to the mayor and the city.
The Somerville Pop Warner Football & Cheer Program is a non-profit organization interested in building leadership, learning skills, teamwork and discipline.
They take pride in bringing together boys and girls from the city of Somerville to learn important life lessons through playing organized football and participating in cheering. They encourage good sportsmanship, respect for our community and each other, and strong team unity. They are committed to keeping youth sports in its proper perspective.
It‘s important now more than ever that kids have a place to go and opportunity to do something productive to give back to their city. All their volunteers are dedicated to making your child‘s experience a positive one.
This story is still developing…

  1. Wait till Election Time??? He probably wants them in Trouble, whomever said what they said about the People that are involved in Somerville’s PoP-Warners & Cheerleaders should take it to Attorney General Office or to the Governor

  3. Wow, management of my old hometown has gone down the toilet, eh?🤢 If you live and vote in Somerville, get this awful man out of the Mayor position, ASAP!🤤

  4. Maybe he’s on steroids again like he was back in his early twenties it does create a problem in your mind he should remember what it was like to be a kid

  5. Ya let’s let the kids run the streets and do drugs.instead put the freaking lights on if someone knows were the switch is just go turn it on why should he be the only that benefits out of being Crockett hit the switch

  6. Gee I’d bet if his sons needed another rink so they could play hockey , he would have one built on the city’s dime …oh wait that already happened ..F*#K Corrupt (Curtabologna ) Curtatone

  7. “The Somerville mayor said “Stop supporting and covering their events” because he did not like the people who managed the team referring to them as “scum and lowlifes” according to him in his own vindictive words. Well Mr Mayor idgaf what u feel about them when they are out there volunteering their time at least 4 days a week for 2-3 hours a day. Please shut up and put the lights on for the kids.

  8. Now it’s time to say goodbye to all my friends in Somerville (all 3 of them). MIC, See you later hopefully not, KEY, Why, because you’ve overstayed your welcome, MOUSE (from the same rodent family.
Come on Mr Mayor…No lights for the kids??? Perhaps you want them roaming the streets instead. Poor use of judgement. Buh Bye

  9. I’ve seen these kids out there. Football is dangerous enough in broad daylight. To teach them tackling and how to run plays in the dark is asking for a serious injury. They have 2 lights running on generators for a huge field that houses 5-6 teams varying in ages. They use to practice at Conway park years ago, but that parks been re-done and now they LOCK the field so people cannot use it. Let whatever children are left in this insanely expensive city play and enjoy youth. Stop hurting the kids because of a fued between adults.

  10. Has anyone contacted DCR to clarify whether its the city of Somerville or the State of MA’s responsibility? Rules are constanly changing and its possible the Stats has responsibility.. .. Ill call them and post an update if I can get in touch with someone… I do know that Foss Park is a DCR run park…

    1. The city has been providing the lights since pushing the program out of Conway park (which has lights) to give to soccer and forcing them to play at Foss. Asking could still help though!
