Our condolences go out to the Campo family for the loss of a Somerville legend, Tommy Campo aka “Mr. Somerville Dance Party”who sadly passed away this past weekend.
Tommy Campo, born in Somerville on Linwood Street and later moved to North End of Boston for a few years then came back to Somerville at his new home located at 7 Auburn Ave. Tommy attended Somerville Trade High School then later joined the United States Army for 3 years then again later came home to Somerville where he made very many friends when he created and produced the famous and legendary “Somerville Dance Party.”
With many Local Somerville volunteers, Tommy worked with many wonderful teens and still to this day Tommy was still in touch thanks to FaceBook. Tommy later moved to Orlando Florida where he became a famous Candlemaker of all things. Tommy was and is still a big part of Somerville. He inspired thousands of local teens with his dance party broadcast back in the day. Tommy is a big part of the fabric that this fine city is made up of that makes it one of the greatest cities on earth. We here at the News feel very fortunate that we got to know him and we are proud to call him our friend!

Wow. I decided to look for Somerville Dance Party(S.D.P) and came across this site. I wish I could have seen or spoken to him before his passing. I have a picture of him and me. He chose me to host S.D.P in 1992/or 93 and to this day I always wondered out of all those kids why did he choose me? I assume he saw a potential in me that I did not see in myself at the time. Anyway, I accepted my first TV job offer lol. I wish I could find the video of S.D.P when I interviewed him during the show. Tom gave me one of the best childhood memories. I would have loved to tell him I graduated college having to have studied media and communication. Tom if you are reading this from up there, Thank you. Thank you also to the family for creating this site.
