Recent Comments: Reasons for signing

The citizens of Somerville deserve better fields. The amount of play that we generate in our urban community combined with limited available field-space, necessitates that the city build synthetic fields. The field at Lincoln Park is a city-wide embarrassment and not representative of Somerville values. Please listen to the experts and update a small portion (less than 20%) of Lincoln Park with a sustainable synthetic field.

“We are committed to making our city a great place to live, work, play and raise a family” Talk is cheap. Our kids are playing sports on fields that look more and more like construction sites. Doing nothing gets you nothing. When it comes to well maintained and safe athletic fields (Nunziano, Lincoln Park, Conway, Draw 7, and Foss), we got nothing!

The fields keep getting worse, they are not improving. We are headed in the wrong direction. The city spends dozens of hours per week on Trum, but dismisses Nunziato and Argenziano. Why is that Stan Koty? It’s not right.

With all $$ spent recently on upgrades fields in Somerville still not comparable to other cities in area. Dugouts, field houses, concessions??

Nothing good comes from nothing. For years Somerville volunteers have worked tirelessly to give kids a chance get the benefits of playing sports. It can’t be done alone and the city needs to give safe and usable venues to achieve this.

It is not right to put our kids in such condition. Youth soccer should not be a dangerous sports.

I am a Coach and Registrar for Somerville Youth Soccer League. I have also played Ultimate Frisbee for over 20 years in the Boston Area. The conditions at Somerville’s athletic fields are well below that of our surrounding communities. It is embarrassing and dangerous.Tthe field conditions are terrible. It is an embarrassment to Somerville when we host travel soccer teams at the Argenziano Field. The dust may be a nuisance, but the broken glass, rocks and uneven playing surface are a hazard.
