For Bob Schofield growing up in Somerville meant returning to Somerville and giving back to youth programs that had been such a memorable part of his childhood.
And that giving back has not gone unnoticed. In honor of his dedication to the youth and to the city of Somerville, Bob Schofield has been selected the 2014 District B Joao Rodrigues Distinguished Service Award by the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association. Bob, with his wife Eileen, will be in attendance to receive the award at the MSSADA annual banquet held this week in Hyannis.
Over the past three years, Bob has tirelessly and enthusiastically helped launch the Somerville Youth Softball Organization, Somerville Tsunami, Somerville Babe Ruth Baseball, and Babe Ruth Extreme baseball programs. The programs combine to serve more than 200 kids and families in Somerville through clinics, camps, games, travel teams, practices and instruction.
Bob and Eileen’s involvement have not limited to the baseball and softball fields serving through committees, advisory meetings and volunteering across a number of city and recreation programs.
Nicole Viele, Athletic Director at Somerville High School, nominated Mr Schofield for the award saying, “Not only does this have a positive impact on the high school baseball and softball programs, Bob’s work brings a sense of pride to Somerville Youth Softball and Babe Ruth Baseball.”
